Review of Pentair Whisperflo pool pump

The most common pump installed is the Pentair Whisperflo pool pump. The reason these are such a popular pump is because of its tremendous water movement. An example of how strong the design of these pumps are is if you have a 2HP pump that is 15-20 years old, you can most of the times match the water movement with a 1 HP Whisperflo. It has a very common square flange threaded shaft motor. These pumps are also known for their quit operation while running. There are however a couple of cons about using the Whisperflo. The most common repair done to a Whisperflo a pump seal replacement.

The pump seal keeps the water away from the shaft of your electrical motor. The main reason these go out the most is when the pool owner fails to keep enough water in the pool. When the pump runs dry it will overheat very fast and that heat goes straight to the shaft causing it to warp. The second most common repair is caused from overheating also and it is a leaking pressure side pipe and sometimes suction side. The heat softens the pvc going into the pump and it losses its roundness causing a leak. If you plan on buying this pump you might want to replace the standard basket with a upgraded pac fab basket as it breaks easily when the pump is ran full of debris. My recomendation:
If you maintain your pool good this is one of the best pumps you can buy.
